Avalanche Summary

From thin spots in the snowpack, you can trigger a large and dangerous avalanche that breaks near the ground on west through north to south-facing slopes. These can break wide, several feet deep, and run far. You may experience no signs of instability, like cracking and collapsing. Stay wary, especially where areas of deep snow taper into a shallower snowpack. Choose to travel on slopes less than about 30 degrees not connected to steeper terrain.

January 7, 2023, two snowmobilers died in a large avalanche near Corona Pass. You can read the preliminary accident report here. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the people involved in this tragic accident.
