You can easily trigger an avalanche on wind-drifted slopes above the treeline. The most dangerous slopes will generally face south to west, where the new snow is being blown onto slopes with continuous snow coverage before this storm. You can find safer travel options in wind-sheltered terrain at lower elevations or just wait a day or two until the new snow settles before venturing into steep, high-elevation terrain.
