Nearly three feet of new snow with over two inches of moisture has fallen in the Tetons since Monday. Strong southwest to west winds have formed DANGEROUS soft slabs up to four feet in depth. These slabs lie on an unstable snowpack and could step down to weak layers of faceted snow or the ground. Yesterday a skier or snowboarder was reported to have triggered an avalanche on Twin Slides at 1:53 PM that closed the Teton Pass highway. Ensuing avalanche hazard reduction efforts by WYDOT produced avalanches in Glory Bowl that also crossed the highway. Later reduction efforts at 3 AM got Twin Slides to cross the road again and produced some more activity in Glory Bowl. Similar events are likely to be triggered today or could occur spontaneaously. Some avalanche paths like Cow of Woods or those that are above canyons in the central Tetons have the potential to run into the lower elevations. TRAVEL IN AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS NOT RECOMMENDED TODAY.
