Avalanche Summary

You could trigger a small avalanche where you find wind-drifted snow over old, weak snow. You are most likely to find this at high elevations close to ridgelines. Most other slopes lack sufficient snow cover to trigger an avalanche. If you find a pillow of firm snow that cracks, reroute to dry ground or unconsolidated snow.
