Limited snow coverage makes triggering avalanches difficult. Steep wind-drifted slopes are the few places where you could trigger an avalanche. Look for smooth, rounded pillows or hardened snow below ridges or on open slopes as an indication of this problem. Even a small slide that piles up in a creek bed or takes you sailing off a cliff could be dangerous.
