Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 10 to 15 cm of snow will fall. The fresh wind slabs are lying on soft layers in particular on steep shady slopes. The snowpack will be moist at low and intermediate altitudes.

Tendency

The fresh wind slabs of Wednesday remain for the foreseeable future prone to triggering in particular on steep shady slopes above the tree line.

Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs are to be evaluated with care and prudence.

The fresh wind slabs can be released, even by a single winter sport participant, but they will be small in most cases. Such avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on steep shady slopes above the tree line. In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation the avalanche prone locations are larger. They are easy to recognise. On steep grassy slopes small to medium-sized gliding avalanches are possible. This applies in particular in the west and below approximately 2400 m.
