Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 50 to 70 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell in the last three days above approximately 2200 m. A lot of new snow in the high Alpine regions. Up to 2000 m rain has fallen in some regions. As a consequence of new snow and wind, sometimes large wind slabs formed. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust, after a clear night especially at low and intermediate altitudes.

Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs require caution, especially at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions.

New snow and wind slabs can be released easily and reach large size, especially at intermediate and high altitudes. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation moist and wet avalanches are possible below approximately 2400 m. The current avalanche situation calls for great caution and restraint.
