Fresh wind slabs require caution.

The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs can be released, especially at their margins. This applies in particular on very steep slopes. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack. These avalanche prone locations are barely recognisable, even to the trained eye, caution is to be exercised in particular in areas where the snow cover is rather shallow,, this also applies in places that are protected from the wind, this also applies in little used backcountry terrain.

The sometimes strong wind has transported the new snow. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on a weakly bonded old snowpack. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on shady slopes. Whumpfing sounds and shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack are a clear indication. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations. At low and intermediate altitudes less snow than usual is lying. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas and at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions a little snow is lying.

The avalanche danger will persist.
