Avalanche Activity
The avalanche prone locations are rare and are easy to recognise.
The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the field, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality. Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found above approximately 2500 m, in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the icy crust.
Snowpack Structure
In all regions only a little snow is now lying. In particular at low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying. At high altitudes and in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. The snowpack is well consolidated. Below approximately 1900 m, shady slopes: It is not distinctly layered and its surface has a crust. Some snow will fall until midday. This applies in particular above approximately 2200 m along the border with France.
