Wind slabs in the high Alpine regions.
Above approximately 1700 m and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain only isolated slab avalanches are possible, but they will be mostly small. These can be released in near-ground layers in very isolated cases.
The new snow and wind slabs of Sunday are lying on the quite favourable surface of an old snowpack above approximately 1700 m. The snowpack will be generally well bonded. The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations. The more recent wind slabs are to be found adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and generally at elevated altitudes.
