Highlights

Rain overnight, lack of refreeze and initial wetting of recent new snow will cause wet loose avalanches from early in the day, especially on east-facing slopes. Avalanche activity will increase during the day on steep sun exposed slopes before cloud cover reduces warming. Strong winds may locally stabilize the snow surface.

Avalanche Activity

Rain overnight, lack of refreeze and initial wetting of recent new snow will cause wet loose avalanches from early in the day, especially on east-facing slopes. Avalanche activity will increase during the day on steep sun exposed slopes before cloud cover reduces warming. Strong winds may locally stabilize the snow surface.

Tendency

No overnight refreeze, mild temperatures at high elevations and strong sunshine result in widespread wet snow avalanche danger from early morning, also in shaded aspects. Avoid steep slopes with heavy, sticky snow, especially below cornices, glide cracks and near sun‑warmed rocks. At high elevations, layered snow in shaded aspects may weaken. Isolated large avalanches are possible, especially due to cornice failures.
