Forecast Snow Stability: Moderately bonded windslab will be present in areas sheltered from the recent winds. Greatest accumulations will be on North-West through North to East aspects above 900 metres. South-East aspects will also be affected by redistribution of existing snow. Fragile cornices will be present above these aspects. The surface of the old snowpack will be refrozen and generally stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Initially winds will be very strong Westerly, then during the evening ease to moderate South-Westerly and light during the day. Overnight the freezing level will drop from 700 metres to around 500 metres. The period is expected to be mainly dry, with just a few light showers during the morning, falling as snow above 400 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Winds were strong, mainly South-South-Westerly. Initially, light precipitation fell as snow at all levels, this rising during the morning to above around 600 metres as the freezing level rose to 800 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Fresh unstable windslab has been deposited in wind sheltered areas, mainly on North-West through North to East aspects above 900 metres. Fragile cornices are building above these aspects. The old snowpack continues to consolidate and is generally stable. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
