The hard wind slabs can be released, especially by large additional loads,. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. They are easy to recognise. Also transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are unfavourable. As the day progresses as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation there will be an increase in the danger of moist and wet snow slides within the current danger level.
From a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying. In particular on sunny slopes below approximately 2800 m no snow is lying. The mostly small wind slabs have bonded quite well with the old snowpack in all aspects. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack. The surface of the snowpack will soften during the day, in particular on very steep sunny slopes below approximately 3200 m.
