Highlights

There is a CONSIDERABLE avalanche danger on the Manti Skyline today.

Continued warm temperatures will cause the snowpack to become unstable. Natural avalanches and cornice falls are expected.

USE CAUTION IF YOU ARE TRAVELING IN THE MOUNTAINS. AVOID BEING ON OR BELOW STEEP SLOPES ESPECIALLY DURING THE HEAT OF THE DAY.

    Natural wet avalanche activity continues to be a concern with all the warm weather we've been having. The snowpack is going through a big change from its cold winter state to a warm melting state. Things can get weird when this happens. I don't like to travel around in the mountains during these types of transitions. It is pretty unpredictable when natural wet avalanche activity will occur. The big threat is being in the wrong place at the wrong time when a natural avalanche releases from above you.

Avalanche Warning

I've added the Skyline to an Avalanche Warning that now includes the mountains of central and northern Utah. This is to alert people that dangerous and unpredictable avalanche conditions exist in the mountains today.

Special Announcement

The final UAC report for the Upper Weber Canyon avalanche accident on March 9 has been published and is available HERE. The UAC would like to thank Park City Powder Cats for sharing information about the timeline of the accident and allowing UAC staff access to the avalanche after the incident.

Snow and Weather

Current Conditions: Overnight temperatures were again above freezing in many locations at 10,000'. Wind has been moderate from the south. It was from the southeast late Monday. Riding conditions are poor.

Mountain Weather: We have yet another warm sunny day ahead. Temperatures will get into the mid 50s and could hit 60˚F. Wind speeds will increase and it might feel a bit breezy along the higher terrain with wind from the southwest. It looks like it could get strong late in the day. We have yet another very warm day ahead on Wednesday and then a weak storm moves through Thursday bringing minor amounts of snow to the mountains.
