AN ABUNDANCE OF NEW SNOW AND STRONG WIND HAS CREATED DANGEROUS AVALANCHE CONDITIONS!!
There is a CONSIDERABLE avalanche danger rating in the upper elevation steep terrain.
The avalanche danger is much lower in areas where the wind has not drifted snow.
You can bet there are huge drifts and large wind slabs just waiting for a trigger today. They may be stubborn but you should not trust them right now. They will stabilize but you'll want to give them a couple of days. For today, avoid being on steep terrain where the wind has drifted and deposited snow.
Drifting snow has closed State Road 31 from the top of Fairview Canyon (interstection of SR264) through Huntington Canyon to Crandall Canyon.
Current Conditions: Strong wind is the headline. It really blew and drifted a lot of snow on Friday. It's slowed a bit now but is still moderate in speed and a little gusty along the higher terrain. Temperatures dropped into the single digits overnight. Because of all the wind drifting, it's hard to tell how much snow fell on Friday but it looks like around 6 inches or maybe a bit more. I have no idea of what to expect as far as conditions today but it's safe to say that the upper elevations have been hammered by the wind. You'll want to seek out sheltered terrain today.
Mountain Weather: The wind from the west should continue to taper off during the day today. Temperatures are going to remain cold and probably won't get much higher than the mid teens. It's looking like a mostly cloudy day. Sunday looks cloudy with the chance for a few inches of snow. Temperatures remain cold. Wind will be from the southwest and looks like it'll remain fairly light. The next decent looking storm starts late Wednesday with more storms lined up afterward.
