Central Cascades
Avalanche danger
Highlights
The Wind Slab avalanches that were observed on Saturday are likely a thing of the past. Avalanches will be unlikely on Tuesday. This doesn't mean that it is impossible for a slope to avalanche. It is always prudent to consider avalanches when riding steep slopes. This means carrying avalanche rescue gear, riding slopes one at a time, and assessing the snowpack before riding very steep, unsupported slopes.
Avalanche Discussion
"I'm happy just to be out riding". This is what I heard today when chatting about conditions in the Cascades. Our snow surfaces are a bit of a grab bag after: cold dry snow last Friday, lots of redistribution by westerly winds, and then sun and increasingly warm temperatures. The sun is weak at this time of year, and although steep sunny slopes were melting, I don't expect much in the way of wet avalanche activity. I'm guessing it will still be possible to find dry snow on shadier slopes.
