The mountains have received 18 to 24 inches of dense snow since last weekend. Southwesterly to northerly ridgetop winds have accompanied this snowfall, and dense wind slabs with depths of one to two feet have formed in leeward terrain at the upper elevations. Skiers and riders could trigger these slabs on steep, avalanche prone slopes. Warming temperatures and periods of sunshine will make these slabs more susceptible to failure as the day progresses. Be particularly wary of long, sustained couloirs.
