Highlights

Small Wet Loose avalanches will be possible on Thursday on the sunniest and steepest slopes.  It is unlikely that any of these avalanches will be large enough to bury or injure a rider.  As is often the case with Wet Loose avalanches, the hazard will increase into the afternoon as the sun and warm temperatures melt the snow.

    Wet Loose avalanches may occur on Thursday as the warm temperatures and sun cause the surface snow to melt.  As there is an increasing amount of water in the surface snow, it looses cohesions and causes tear drop shaped avalanches.  With a relatively low sun angle and some cloud cover in the forecast, Wet Loose avalanches will only be possible on steep South slopes or possibly steep slopes at pass elevations.  As the day warms up, we typically see the first signs of unstable snow from near rock outcroppings or cliffs.

Avalanche Discussion

We've had some cold clear nights and warm sunny days.  Surface snow conditions are a complete grab bag based on elevation and aspect.  Breakable crust, preserved powder, surface hoar, and wind affected snow; you name it... it's out there.  Avalanche character for Thursday will be limited to possible Wet Loose avalanches as a result of even warmer temperatures.
