Highlights
The avalanche danger continues to be generally LOW today. Avalanche activity is unlikely today.
With continued warm temperatures and very wet and punchy snow conditions, it is wise to stay out of steep gullies where even a small wet avalanche could pile up debris very deeply.
Special Announcement
The Avalanche Research Program at Simon Fraser University is conducting an online survey to examine how people use avalanche safety information. They want to hear from all backcountry users to understand how they process information provided in public avalanche forecasts. Anyone who completes the survey before May 15th will be entered to win cash prize.
Snow and Weather
Current Conditions: There's been no big change in conditions over the last few days. The snowpack remains wet and sloppy in the lower and mid elevations. It is still supportable and travel is still decent in the higher terrain. Temperatures overnight again dipped into the mid to upper 20s so the snowpack should be refrozen this morning. The wind has shifted around to the west and it's slightly breezy along the highest terrain.
Mountain Weather: We'll have sun this morning with increasing clouds as the day goes on and the chance for snow tonight. Highs will again be in the low 40s and west northwest wind will be light to moderate in speed and increase later on. I'm expecting a trace to a few inches of accumulation overnight. Skies should clear out again on Sunday and temperatures will be much cooler with highs in the upper 20s.
