The fresh snow and the wind slabs are prone to triggering.

Along the border with France, along the border between Valais and Italy 40 to 70 cm of snow has fallen since Thursday above approximately 1800 m. Up to 40 cm of snow, but less in some localities, will fall until Saturday above approximately 1800 m. The strong wind will transport the new snow significantly. The fresh wind slabs are lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack especially on very steep shady slopes.

The avalanche activity will slowly decrease.

The current avalanche situation calls for caution and restraint. In particular along the border with France and along the border with Switzerland medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large avalanches are possible. The large quantity of fresh snow and the sometimes deep wind slabs can be released easily in all aspects above approximately 2000 m. This applies even in case of a small load. Wind slabs are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility. Remotely triggered and natural avalanches are possible. In some places the avalanches can be released in the weakly bonded old snow and can reach as far as the valley bottom. This applies in particular in case of releases originating from very steep shady starting zones above the tree line. Whumpfing sounds and the formation of shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack can indicate the danger.
