Forecast Snow Stability: Wet snow instabilities will become more widespread from early evening onwards. These instabilities will be found mainly in the pre-existing windslab on North-West through North-East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Gully tops, coire rims and steep wind sheltered locations most affected. Unstable cornices will be prone to collapse on these same aspects. The existing old snowpack will slowly soften but will have good stability. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing level will remain well above summit levels for the duration of the forecast period. A wet evening following by some interrupted drizzle afterwards. Strong South-South-Westerlies will increase to gale force by dawn. Observed Weather Influences: Light overnight snow to low levels cleared to leave a mainly dry morning with rain moving in during the afternoon. Gale force Westerlies eased through the day backing South-West by midday. The freezing level rose through the day, around 950 metres at noon. ObservedSnowStability: Moderately bonded windslab is present in wind sheltered locations on North-West through North-East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Gully tops, sharply defined coire rims and steep wind sheltered locations are most affected. Small fragile cornices are present on these same aspects. The old snowpack is well bonded, icy and firm in nature. At lower elevations, the snowpack slowly softened during the day. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
