Wind slab
- Above 2,000 m
The new snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.
The new snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.
The fresh wind slabs can be released even by a single winter sport participant above the tree line. On steep slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain small and medium-sized dry slab avalanches are possible. At elevated altitudes the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent. Mostly small dry loose snow avalanches are possible as a consequence of the new snow.
As a consequence of new snow and wind, wind slabs will form. Snow depths vary greatly at intermediate and high altitudes, depending on the infuence of the wind. In particular at low and intermediate altitudes a little snow is lying.
