In high Alpine regions a considerable avalanche danger will be encountered in some regions.

Snowpack

On Thursday night precipitation is expected over widespread areas. The snowfall level will descend from 2600 m down to 1800 m in the western regions and down to 2200 m in the eastern regions. The fresh snow will fall onto a thin, continuous snowpack on shady slopes in the high alpine regions and atop glaciers. As a consequence of strong-velocity winds from southwesterly to northwesterly directions, snowdrift accumulations which are prone to triggering are expected to be generated. In the high alpine regions, weather conditions are wintery. On high-alpine backcountry tours, it is recommended to take along winter emergency equipment.

Outlook through Sunday, 29.10.2023

During Friday night, a limited amount of additional snowfall is expected in the western and the northern regions above 1800 m. During the daytime hours on Saturday, it is expected to be quite sunny. On Sunday it will be predominantly sunny in the northern regions, in the southern regions a small amount of snowfall is anticipated above 2200 to 2400 m. Avalanche danger is expected to incrementally decrease in all regions of Switzerland. However, the avalanche situation in high alpine regions will remain wintery.
