Upper Susa and Chisone Valleys

Wet and gliding snow represent the main danger.

The weather was very cloudy over a wide area. Up to 2700 m rain fell in the last few days. In some localities 15 to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Tuesday above approximately 2600 m. As a consequence of mild temperatures and high relative humidity the snowpack could not consolidate during the last few days. The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to moistening of the snowpack. Above approximately 2200 m a lot of snow is lying for the time of year.

The conditions will facilitate a slow strengthening of the snowpack in all aspects.

The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the high Alpine regions, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality. In all regions small to medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation, in particular on very steep slopes, and at the base of rock walls. At high altitudes and in high Alpine regions a sometimes unfavourable avalanche situation will persist in some cases. Backcountry tours should be started very early and concluded timely.
