Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.

In some localities 2 to 5 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall on Friday above approximately 1500 m. The new snow and wind slabs are lying on a crust in all aspects above approximately 2000 m. In addition the sometimes new snow-covered wind slabs in the regions exposed to precipitation are capable of being triggered now as before. Adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent and larger. In particular on very steep slopes and on wind-loaded slopes small and medium-sized avalanches are possible. Backcountry touring calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger.

Snowpack Structure

The covering of new snow is soft. Over a wide area new snow is lying on an icy crust.
