Snowpack Summary

Between 5 and 15 cm of light snow rests on a generalized crust that supports the weight of a skier. Below 500m, a thin friable crust can be found buried in the surface snow interface.

The height of the snowpack is 70 to 110 cm.

Weather Summary

Synopsis: Passage of a weak trough, leaving a few flakes in the night of Friday to Saturday. Weather fine, but cold.

Friday evening and night: Partly cloudy, light snow. Wind northwest, 30 to 50 km/h. Low -19.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, light snow. Wind west, 30 to 40 km/h. High -15.

Sunday: Alternating sun and clouds. Wind southeast, 10 to 20 km/h. High -14.

Problems

Wind Slabs

Wind Slab avalanches are the release of a cohesive layer of snow (a slab) formed by the wind. Wind typically transports snow from the upwind sides of terrain features and deposits snow on the downwind side. Wind slabs are often smooth and rounded and sometimes sound hollow, and can range from soft to hard. Wind slabs that form over a persistent weak layer (surface hoar, depth hoar, or near-surface facets) may be termed Persistent Slabs or may develop into Persistent Slabs.
