You can trigger large, dangerous avalanches that break at the ground on steep slopes on most aspects. Carefully evaluate the snowpack before venturing into terrain steeper than about 30 degrees, or avoid steep slopes altogether. This area is still relatively shallow compared to other parts of the state, which means that the weak layers are closer to the surface, making them easier to impact. Cracking and collapsing are signs of dangerous conditions and signs that you should stick to lower-angle terrain.
