Avalanche Summary

You can trigger avalanches in the recent snow on most steep slopes. Observers report cracks shooting up to 50 feet away. Avalanches will break a foot or two deep, and deeper where winds have drifted snow. Avalanches in the drifted snow could step down into weak snow buried two to four feet deep and grow much larger than you anticipated. Avoid traveling on steep, wind-loaded slopes and convex rollovers or rocky, uneven terrain to reduce your chances of triggering an avalanche.
