Avalanche Summary

Most slopes are safe from large avalanches because the snowpack is generally weak throughout. If you do find an area of stiffer wind-drifted snow in a north or east-facing gully, go around it. You can travel where the snow is softer to avoid triggering a slab avalanche. In places with soft, weak snow, you can push small loose avalanches on slopes approaching 40 degrees, so avoid terrain traps at the bottom of slopes where debris could pile up.
