The General avalanche hazard is MODERATE at the mid and upper elevations today. Super soft surface slabs that lie upon hard snow and crusts will be very easily triggered by backcountry users on steep wind loaded slopes. These slabs will be most sensitive at the high elevations and may release to depths of up to two feet. Consequenses should be considered as the triggered slabs could have enough force and volume to knock people off of cliffs or sweep them into trees or terrain traps. At the low elevations isolated pockets of shallow slabs or sluffs may be triggered on very steep wind loaded slopes.

Some overnight snowfall is expected and significant snowfall should fall throughout the day on Wednesday as a winter storm warning is in affect. Slightly warmer temperatures are expected Wednesday that may result in a rain/snow mix at the valley floor. AVALANCHE HAZARD FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS/CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND GREYS RIVER/SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREASAs the forecasted snow adds to the sensitive surface slabs the hazard is expected to raise from MODERATE TO CONSIDERABLE on Wednesday at the mid and upper elevations as the size and sensitivity of the slabs increases. This increase may happen by morning depending on the timing of snowfall and wind recieved. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
