Temperatures have been mostly above freezing for the past week and have created unstable conditions. Numerous wet loose slides occurred in the central Teton Range yesterday afternoon. These events occurred on a variety of aspects. Some ran long distances. Overnight temperatures were in the upper 20s to mid 30s. Areas of unconsolidated wet loose snow are prevalent. Wet slides are possible on steep slopes. Avoid cornices and steep terrain where the snow is soft and wet.
Wet loose slides are possible in steep terrain on a variety of aspects. These slides could begin as shallow point slides and then entrain deeper layers of snow and run long distances.
Large overhanging cornices could fail due to sustained warm temperatures and rain at the higher elevations. Cornice failures could trigger large wet slab avalanches on underlying slopes. Avoid cornices and the slopes beneath them.
Skies will remain cloudy with rain and snow shower activity increasing overnight and into the day. Several inches of new snow accumulation is likely at the higher elevations. Over half an inch of rain is possible at the mid and lower elevations. Temperatures will be in the upper 20s to mid-30s at the upper elevations and in the mid to upper 30s at the mid and lower elevations. Winds will west to southwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour.Wet snow continues to be unstable in very steep terrain and in cliff areas. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Wet slides will continue to be a hazard during the next 24 hours. Avoid cornices and steep terrain when the snow is soft and wet.
