Highlights

Avalanches are unlikely, but pay attention in steeper terrain above treeline where the four inches of low-density new snow from Monday/Tuesday may have drifted into deeper slabs. Any avalanches that are encountered today won't be large enough to bury someone, but may be enough to cause a fall in steep terrain.

Avalanche Discussion

Up to four inches of new low-density snow fell on Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures have remained cold since then which has kept the snow light and available for wind-transport. Wind has been generally light to moderate from most directions this week. Avalanche hazard is low overall but avalanches may be possible in isolated areas above treeline where there is more than 6" of wind-drifted snow in steep (above 35 degrees) terrain. Look for wind-drifted "pillows" of snow below ridgelines and signs of instability like cracking. While any avalanche will be small in size, assess the consequences of taking a fall from getting knocked off balance by moving snow. There are lots of exposed rocks above treeline. Warmer temperatures today and tomorrow should help to remove any lingering instabilities in the new snow.
