Highlights

The overall danger rating on the Skyline is MODERATE today.

The newest snow is fairly stable. You might find a pocket that could release on very steep upper elevation wind loaded slopes.

There's still a minor chance that you could trigger something that breaks deeper into sugary faceted weak layers. This is most likely in shallow snowpack locations.

    The newer snow is mostly stable at this point. If you are monkeying around on cornices or steep wind loaded slopes below ridges, you might find a pocket that will release.

    Really though, the serious concern is the off-chance of triggering a deeper avalanche. Locations where the snowpack is shallower are likely spots to trigger an avalanche that breaks into old facets. The chances are low. The consequences are high. Look for places where there are rocks or even grass or bushes sticking out of the snow indicating a shallower location.

Snow and Weather

Current Conditions: Temperatures stayed relatively cool on Thursday with highs only around 30˚F. Wind from the west got a little breezy along the upper ridges. Riding conditions should still be pretty decent today.

Mountain Weather: High temperatures today will again top out around 30˚F. Moderate speed ridgetop wind from the west looks like it'll slow. Cloud cover should thicken up later on ahead of a quick hitting storm tonight that might bring 3 to 6 inches of new snow by Saturday morning. Saturday remains cloudy then things start to break Sunday as a signigicant ridge of high pressure moves in through next week. This will bring the biggest warm up we've seen yet.
