Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable wind slab will be present, and will continue to be deposited, in wind sheltered areas. Greatest accumulations will be on East through South to West aspects above 900 metres. Fragile cornices will be present above these aspects. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Initially the wind will be very strong North-Easterly then overnight it will ease and back to moderate to strong Westerly. During the day the winds will be moderate to strong and mainly Northerly. Some light snow showers are expected. During the day the freezing level will rise to around 300 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Winds were moderate East-North-Easterly during the morning, increasing and backing strong North-North-Easterly during the afternoon. During the day the freezing level lowered from around 800 metres to 400 metres. Precipitation, initially falling as snow above about 650 metres, fell to increasingly lower levels as the freezing level dropped. ObservedSnowStability: Fresh unstable windslab has been deposited in wind sheltered areas. Greatest accumulations are on South to West aspects above 900 metres. Other aspects, especially sheltered gullies, are also affected. Fragile cornices are building above these aspects. Unstable windslab continued to be deposited on these aspects and locations during the afternoon. The surface of the older snowpack has refrozen and is generally stable. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
