Avalanche Summary

The few places you may be able to trigger an avalanche are on north and northeast-facing slopes, where drifted snow sits over old snow. To manage this problem, look for avoid areas of deeper or stiffer previously-drifted snow, especially in steep, shady, rocky terrain. If you trigger an avalanche, it will be small, but even a small avalanche can lead to a short, unforgiving ride through shallow rocks.
