Avalanche Summary

You can easily trigger an avalanche on most slopes. On northwest through north to east-facing slopes, you can trigger them from a distance, and they can grow large enough to bury you. If you are traveling in these areas, be aware of steep slopes above you and carefully consider the consequences of the entire slope coming down on top of you. You can trigger smaller avalanches that break within the new snow on most steep slopes where you find over a foot of new snow. You can find safer travel options in wind-sheltered terrain below treeline or by avoiding traveling on or underneath slopes steeper than around 30 degrees.
