You can trigger an avalanche on northerly through easterly-facing slopes. The most dangerous slopes are where recent winds drifted snow at upper elevations. Look for and avoid steep slopes directly below ridgelines, the sides of gullies, or steep rollovers in terrain where you find a lens-like pile of snow that feels hollow or drum-like underneath you or fresh cornices forming. You can find safer riding conditions by sticking to wind-sheltered slopes at lower elevations.
