You can trigger avalanches on north through northeast-facing slopes near and above treeline. You can trigger smaller avalanches in isolated terrain features like steep cross-loaded gullies. In contrast, you can trigger a larger avalanche in larger terrain features like open bowls and concave slopes that hold and catch snow. Either size of these avalanches will take you for a nasty, rocky ride. If you find a smooth-hollow-sounding snow drift cracking or collapsing underfoot, consider moving to lower-angle terrain for safer travel options.
