Avalanche Summary

You can trigger a large and dangerous avalanche that breaks near the ground on northerly and easterly-facing slopes. You can trigger these avalanches from the base of a slope or from a distance and they may break wider and run farther than you anticipate. The usual warning signs of cracking and collapsing may be absent, leaving you no warning before a slope breaks above you and drags you into an avalanche. Look for slopes less than about 30 degrees for safer options. You should avoid low-angle slopes that are connected to steep slopes above.
