Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on slopes steeper than around 30 degrees where more than about a foot of recent snow is resting on old, weak snow. These avalanches will be large enough to bury you as new snow combined with strong winds will distribute the snow more broadly across the terrain. You can find safer travel options on low-angle wind-sheltered slopes. Slopes where the recent snow has fallen on bare ground are safer, but you should be wary of difficult-to-see obstacles just beneath the snow surface.
