Avalanche Summary

Cooler air and a few hours of below-freezing nighttime temperatures have improved conditions, but it’s still warm—so don’t let your guard down. Safe travel on steep backcountry slopes requires thick, supportable melt-freeze crusts beneath you. If you find yourself sinking into wet snow past your ankles, head to lower-angle slopes or call it a day.

Starting and ending your day early is a good strategy to reduce your risk of avalanches.
