Avalanche Summary

You can trigger a dangerous slab avalanche large enough to bury you. Wind-drifted slopes below exposed ridges are the most dangerous, but take extra caution on any slope with a buried weak layer. Especially slopes where you or your snow machine are breaking into weak, cohesionless snow below a thick slab. The easiest way to reduce your chances of getting caught in an avalanche is to avoid traveling on or underneath slopes steeper than about 30 degrees.
