The general avalanche hazard this morning is MODERATE at the high elevation, and LOW below 9,000 feet. Soft slabs up to one foot in depth could be triggered in wind loaded starting zones, and will be more susceptible to failure as temperatures rise. In the afternoon, the avalanche hazard will climb to MODERATE at all elevations as sun and increasing temperatures soften and weaken the upper snowpack. On sunlit aspects, sun balls and pinwheels will be common early in the day, with sloughing of new snow and wet slabs possible later in the day. As temperatures rise, these slides will increase in likelihood and volume, having the potential of sweeping skiers or riders over cliff bands or into terrain traps.

Mostly clear skies will continue overnight then clouds will increase Tuesday with a chance of light snow by afternoon. Rain will be possible below 7,500 feet. Winds will be strong and southerly at thirty miles per hour with higher gusts. AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The general avalanche hazard tomorrow is expected to be MODERATE at the High elevations, and LOW below 9,000 feet. Pockets of soft slabs up to one foot in depth could be triggered in steep, wind loaded starting zones near ridgecrests. Point slides will be possible at Mid and Upper elevations if the sun gets a chance to heat the newer snow ahead of the increasing cloud cover.
