Hard slabs of wind-drifted snow below ridges and in concave gullies are speckled throughout higher-elevation slopes. These may be difficult to trigger, but they can take you for an unexpected ride through nasty terrain below. Steep wind-sheltered slopes are also problematic. You can easily trigger a loose snow avalanche that gouges to the ground or knocks you off your feet. Keep your guard up and avoid these problems to help stay safe.
