Avalanche Problems

Storm Slabs

A natural avalanche cycle began this morning involving 25cm storm snow. Notably a size 3 ran to valley bottom. Temperatures have moderated and additional moderate to heavy precipitation today and Wedensday should create widespread slab conditions.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Likely

Expected Size: 1 - 3

Wind Slabs

New snow has buried widespread wind slabs that developed late last week. Most notable at mid-elevation open avalanche paths.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible - Likely

Expected Size: 1 - 2

Persistent Slabs

A surface hoar layer is buried up to 115 cm deep. It has become less sensitive to skier triggering but remains a concern. It will likely become more sensitive to triggering with additional load from forecasted precipitation.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 3
