Forecast Snow Stability: Continuing thaw. There will be heightening levels of instability this evening and overnight on all aspects. Areas most affected will be where deeper accumulations remain on steep terrain, especially on North-West to North-Easterly aspects above 750m. Cornices will remain fragile on these aspects. Later as the freezing level lowers expect some firming of the snowpack at summit levels with fresh shallow windslab on East to South-East aspects above 1000m. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable

Forecast Weather Influences: Winds will be variable fresh East-South-Easterly at first, turning Westerly overnight remaining variable and then North-West later. After a dry early evening there will be moderate showers of rain and summit snow throughout the forecast period. The freezing level will rise at first to well above the summits and lower by the early hours to hover around 1000 metres. Observed Weather Influences: There were some scattered showers this morning falling as sleet on higher ground. Winds have been very strong South-Westerly, the freezing level was around 900 metres and rising. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack has depleted at lower levels with better cover remaining above 450 metres. There are wet snow instabilities on all aspects mainly affecting steep terrain on West through North to North-East aspects above 750 metres. Cornices are fragile. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
