Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh windslab accumulations will develop in wind-sheltered locations due to snow redistribution. Existing weaknesses will also persist. Areas most affected will be West through North to East aspects above 850 metres. Fragile cornices will develop above Northerly aspects. Generally good stability elsewhere with wind exposed locations being firm and icy. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.
Forecast Weather Influences: A dry period with the freezing level around 250 metres overnight, rising to 450 metres during the day. Fresh, South-Easterly winds will increase through Tuesday night to reach gale force by dawn. Observed Weather Influences: Overnight snowfall and very strong Northerly winds eased to leave a dry and bright day with the freezing level around 350 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Weaknesses are persisting within windslab accumulations on steep wind-sheltered terrain above 850 metres. Aspects most affected are North-West through North to Southerly aspects. Only small fresh cornices were observed. Elsewhere there is generally good stability with wind exposed areas being firm. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
