Avalanche Activity

Below approximately 3200 m the danger of moist and wet avalanches will increase to level 3 (considerable) in the late morning.

Further increase in danger of moist and wet avalanches as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation, in the event of an overcast night in particular on steep sunny slopes,. More medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large moist and wet avalanches are possible. They can occur in particular in starting zones where previous releases have taken place. Shady slopes: A few moist snow slides are possible. Backcountry tours, off-piste skiing and ascents to alpine cabins should be started and concluded early. Faceted weak layers exist in the top section of the snowpack. Single winter sport participants can release avalanches in some places, including medium-sized ones. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on steep north, northeast and northwest facing slopes above approximately 2600 m.

Snowpack Structure

The surface of the snowpack will only just freeze and will already be soft in the early morning. Towards its surface, the snowpack is unfavourably layered. Less snow than usual is lying. On sunny slopes below approximately 2200 m from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying. In the last three days on steep sunny slopes several small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized avalanches were reported. This applies below approximately 2800 m, as well as at the base of rock walls.

Tendency

The danger of moist and wet avalanches will not decrease for the time being.
