5 to 10 cm of soft snow is slowly adding up and sits on a thick, supportive rain crust. At higher elevations, there may be deeper deposits of wind-loaded snow up to around 30 cm.
The remainder of the snowpack is dry, with small faceted crystals down to the ground.
The snowpack in the alpine around White Pass is 180 to 200 cm deep.
