As a consequence of new snow and a moderate to strong wind from northwesterly directions, soft wind slabs formed. The rather small wind slabs are clearly recognisable. Wind slabs can at their margins be released, mostly by large loads and reach medium size. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep northeast, east and southeast facing slopes, in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas. Additionally avalanches can also be released in near-ground layers and reach medium size in isolated cases in all aspects. Whumpfing sounds serve as an alarm sign.
Up to 20 cm of snow, but less in some localities, has fallen since Sunday above approximately 2000 m. As a consequence of the moderate to strong northwesterly wind, snow drift accumulations formed. The strong wind has transported the fresh and old snow significantly. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack at intermediate and high altitudes. In all aspects below approximately 2000 m from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.
The avalanche danger will persist.
